Building starts for new school in Mechelen
- 07-10-2024
The first spade was put in the ground for the construction of a brand new school in Mechelen.
The Busleyden Atheneum (BA) Zandpoort is one of the schools in the Flemish government’s ambitious Master Plan for School Building. Within the Aurora consortium, EPICo, Rebel, Democo and group Van Roey will create additional school capacity in Flanders during the coming years. The new school building will meet the highest energy and comfort requirements. Heating will be provided by an air-water heat pump and the ventilation system with heat recovery will ensure an ideal indoor climate for pupils and teachers at all times.
Public-private partnership
Incidentally, the consortium is today designing and building a total of 23 schools in Flanders, including in Ninove, Ertvelde, Ghent, Haaltert, Ronse and Lanaken. Each of these are public-private partnerships. Aurora wants to boost the much-needed upgrading of the school infrastructure in Flanders and relieve organising authorities, parents’ committees and school councils so that they are no longer dependent on their own fundraising to invest in the school. They can now fully concentrate on school operations and the pedagogical project.
